The Home Gallery Trail was conceived by my myself as a means to attract art/craft buyers to my own
Home Gallery.
After having the usual experiences from commercial galleries e.g. my money tied up in consignment stock, not
being advised when a sale is made, waiting for payment, and finding out that
my work has been hung poorly or not hung at all, I decided that is was better to go it alone and certainly receiving full retail price for
everything sold ,was a great incentive. Plus it was satisfying to meet the
people who purchased my work. When was the last time that a gallery phoned
you with with feedback about the purchasers comments.
Often we will never know one of the hundreds of reasons why a sale falls through.
Having my Home Gallery has changed all that, I can now directly answer my customer's concerns about framing choices, colour, size,
packaging, freight and what to do about reflections on the glass. It has been my experience that today's art buyer, doesn't want the clinical
experience of just purchasing a piece a piece of artwork but they want to reach out and touch you! They are genuinely interested in what influences
your artwork and the creative process involved.
By combining with other artists/craftspeople in your area, you can share
marketing costs, have combined exhibitions but more importantly create more
of a drawcard to your customers who can design their own Home Gallery
Trail
by making contact with the artists/craftspeople that they wish to visit.
You don't need to be tied to your Home Gallery 8 hours a day, 7 days a week, in
my own example I only receive visitation by prior arrangement which allows
me time to be creative and productive.
Considering that Broken Hill N.S.W (8 hours west of Sydney) is the second
largest seller of artwork/craftwork in N.S.W. after Sydney, what could you
create in your area ! Many Broken Hill artists including Pro Hart have their
own Home Galleries and as the statistics show art buyers are prepared to travel long distances.
In my local area ( Coffs Harbour N.S.W.) the local council allow my Home
Gallery to operate without a development application under the
guidelines of a home industry (conditions apply check with your council) Other more tangible benefits of having your own
Home Gallery are;
